Biography:

Elizabeth Carlson is an Assistant Professor of Political Science and African Studies at Penn State. She holds a PhD in Political Science from UCLA, and has previously held fellowships with the Center on Democracy, Development and Rule of Law at Stanford, and Program on Democracy at Yale. Her current research focuses on political behavior in Africa's new democracies, including vote choice, partisanship, and public opinion. She also works to evaluate and improve the way political scientists study these issues in the field. Her dissertation, "Great Expectations: Explaining African Voters' Ethnic Preferences" won honorable mention for Best Experimental Dissertation from the American Political Science Association.
