Biography:

Originally from Zimbabwe, Dr. Ephraim Muchada Govere directs and manages a multi-function, multi-user Soil Research Cluster Laboratory (SRCL) that provides leadership, expertise, and analytical instrumentation and equipment necessary for research and teaching in the areas of soil chemistry, soil fertility, soil physics, pedology, hydropedology and other ecosystem areas of agricultural and environmental testing. While still in Africa, Dr. Govere managed and evaluated several agricultural and environmental projects including World Bank, Australian Center for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR), and Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) funded regional, country, continental and international projects. For three years, he was a visiting research scientist at the International Fertilizer Development Center in Alabama; and for four years, he worked as a Soil Chemist at Dynamac International Corporation - Environmental Services, USA West Ecology Division EPA Environmental Research Laboratory in Oregon. In addition to his administration and management experience, he taught courses at the University of Zimbabwe, Africa University, and University of Fort Hare (South Africa) and currently The Pennsylvania State University. Dr. Govere was recently awarded the Dr. William Henson Diversity Achievement Award by the College of Agricultural Sciences at Penn State in recognition for his distinctive and outstanding work that advances diversity. Dr. Govere holds a PhD in Soil Science, MS in Agronomy, MEd in Higher Educational Administration from Penn State, MBA from University of North Alabama, BS in Forest Management from Oregon State University, Graduate Certificate in Education from the University of Zimbabwe, and a 3-yr training Teachers’ Certificate from Mutare Teachers’ College, Zimbabwe. One of his research accomplishments is the development of indigenous fertilizer and fertilizer production technology suitable for Africa.
